Lara Baladi is an artist working with the reproducible image in various media and formats. Born in Lebanon in 1969, of Lebanese-Egyptian origin, Baladi has lived in Beirut, Paris, London and Cairo, where she currently resides. Her work has been exhibited internationally at various spaces around the Middle East, the U.S., Japan and Europe, and is part of a number of contemporary art collections, including the Fondation Cartier in Paris, the Museet For Fotokunst in Copenhagen, the Audi Bank in Beirut, and most recently, the Pori Art Museum in Finland.

Kai’ro, the artist’s first major solo-show, was initiated by the Bildmuseet in Sweden in October 2004 and continued its tour of art museums in Scandinavia until March 2006, including specially commissioned works and a catalogue re-edition produced by the Pori Museum in Finland.

Baladi has participated in several ongoing internationally touring exhibitions, amongst which Africa Remix (2004- 2007), I-Dentity  (2005-2007) and Snap Judgments curated by Okwui Enwezor.
She was commissioned to open the Image of the Middle East festival in Denmark, august 2006, with a 20 projections/screens installation on one kilometer along the seashore.

Baladi has curated exhibitions in Paris (La Chambre Claire, 1995) and in the context of the Bamako biennial of photography in 2003, From 1990 until 1995 she worked as a production manager in advertising and press photography.
Fenenine El-Rahhal is the fourth of her projects she is organizing in the Egyptian Western desert since 2000.

She is represented by the Townhouse Gallery in Cairo and by Brancolini & Grimaldi in Italy and will be exhibited by the Townhouse gallery of Contemporary Art at the 2006 Frieze Art Fair in London.

Baladi received a fellowship from the Japan Foundation in 2003. She is a member of the Beirut-based Fondation Arabe pour l’Image. She lives and works in Cairo since 1997.
