The Baikal Lake
You can rarely find somebody who doesn’t know or heard about the lake Baikal. The Russians consider Lake Baikal as a very sacred lake. They believe that while flying over Siberia god has dropped his jewels from his frozen hands. Baikal Lake is the greatest gem of his hand. Baikal Lake has always managed to grab the attention from scientists and people worldwide. One fifth part of earth’s fresh water is there in one lake that is the Baikal Lake. This fresh water lake is 600 kilometers long. Russians often call Baikal as the most sacred and glorious sea. The local people never call it a lake. They think that if they call Baikal a lake father Baikal will get angry and as result they will suffer from hurricane, sarma and such natural disasters.
There are nearly 2000 different types of flora you can find. Among them 1200 of the flora and fauna are unique to the Baikal Lake. You cannot find them anywhere else in the world. The experts are researching about the Siberian seal. They still have no clue how this species came to the Baikal Lake. There are many mysteries surrounding the Lake Baikal. Even the name brings a lot of questions and doubts. Baikal means “rich fire” in Mongolian. In many other languages Baikal stands for rich lake. There is a tiny crustacean present in Baikal Lake. It consumes various bacteria and algae to maintain purity of this lake. In every square meter of Baikal Lake there are nearly three million Baikal Epishura present.
People sense a touch of peace and serenity when they come to visit Baikal Lake. You can reach there via rail or air. Every year thousands of tourists come to visit the Lake Baikal and this is truly a great place to visit.
